The Ultimate Oil Tolerant Epoxy Primer for DIY and Commercial Use

At DIY Epoxy, we’ve tailored EPX-100 Primer to meet the needs of our customers—whether you’re a homeowner tackling a weekend project or a business owner upgrading a workspace. This high-performance epoxy primer penetrates deeply and provides a glossy, durable finish that’s ready in a day.

Step 1: Surface Preparation

Before applying our OT-760 Oil Tolerant Epoxy Primer, remove any peeling or flaking old paint and lightly sand the surface to create a rough texture for better adhesion. For the best results when prepping for a floor coating, use mechanical methods like shot-blasting or grinding. If that’s not an option, sanding or our DIY Epoxy Etch and Clean solution will help. Once the surface is prepped, sweep and vacuum thoroughly to remove all dust and debris.

When the surface is heavily contaminated with oil, we recommend using a strong commercial grade degreaser prior to any sanding or floor grinding.

Step 2: Mix It Up – Quick & Easy Prep

  1. Combine the Components: Grab your kit and pour the hardener (Component B) into the resin (Component A). It’s as simple as pouring one into the other—no complicated measuring needed!
  2. Mix Like a Champ: Use a low-speed paddle mixer (300-400 RPM)—a drill with a mixing attachment works great! Stir for at least 3 minutes to blend everything smoothly. You’ll see it come together into a glossy, uniform mix.
  3. Scrape for Perfection: Take a spatula and run it along the sides and bottom of the bucket. This ensures every bit of resin and hardener gets in on the action—no waste, just results!
  4. Double-Check Your Mix: Pour the mixture into a clean bucket and give it one more quick stir (about a minute).

DIY Tip: Mix only what you can use right away—OT-760 sets fast, so you’ll want to work efficiently!

Step 3: Apply It – Smooth, Even Coverage

  1. Start Rolling: Pour OT-760 into your paint scuttle and get moving! Grab a roller and begin applying to the surface in an even uniform application.
  2. Layer It Up (If Needed): If your floor drinks up the primer like a sponge, don’t worry! While it’s still wet, use your roller to ensure you have a uniform finish. Keep going until the surface looks satisfied—no dry spots allowed!
  3. No Pooling!: Be sure to smooth out any lumps or thick spots on the floor, you don't want these showing through into your final epoxy coating!

DIY Tip: Work in small sections to keep things manageable, especially if it’s your first time. You’ll be amazed at how quickly it comes together!
